After suffering months of writer’s block and giving myself numerous excuses, I achieved victory by asking for God’s guidance. I have struggled so much with having the desire to write and not finding the time to do so. Everything else seemed to take priority. I questioned whether God really wanted me to write. Yesterday, I pleaded with God for help and direction. I think He wanted me to reach a point of inner turmoil where my prayers would be most heard. He waited until I cried out to Him for help. I think that’s what He wants most of all. He wants each one of us to ask him for help to do what He calls us to do, and surrender our will to Him. He wants us to lean on Him instead of ourselves.

He answered my prayer by leading me to a Bible verse on the Holy Bible app. Matthew 5:14-16 NIV, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This was like a call to action. It was time to start writing, with God’s help. So I posted two stories on my WordPress blog.

Sometimes God confirms what He is trying to tell us. I subscribe to a devotional I obtain on e-mail called Our Daily Bread. Today the author, Patricia Rayborn, referred to the same scripture, Matthew 5:16, and the title of her story is Shining Light. I don’t think this was a coincidence. I have recently learned that the events in our lives are not coincidence. I believe this was a verse God brought to my attention twice to confirm that it has meaning for me. Anyway, Patricia was also encouraged by this verse. She was nervous about a 5 week prayer class she was going to teach and very few people were enrolled. After reading this verse, she sent out a class announcement on social media, with people registering for her class.

Sometimes the enemy will fill your mind with doubts and fears, and make you question your worthiness to be involved in ministry. I was asking myself if I was close enough to Christ or know enough about the Bible. I usually have quiet time in the morning and I felt God’s leading to read the book of Timothy. This was a Book from the Bible that a Godly man referred me to before giving my life to Christ years ago. He said it would speak to me personally. The verse that stood out to me yesterday was 1 Timothy 1:12 NIV. “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service.” This verse encouraged me to follow my calling to write. He considers me worthy, even if I doubt that I am holy enough or knowledgeable enough. Each one of us is called to be of service to Him, no matter what our circumstance, whether living in a nursing home, being a stay at home Mom or working. It doesn’t matter whether you are poor or wealthy, in a position of low hourly pay or of high prestige, you are called to serve God.

I’ve questioned my abilities to serve Him adequately and am very aware of my weaknesses and limitations. But God gives us the power to carry out His will, through His Holy Spirit. I was further encouraged today when the verse of the day in the Holy Bible app was Ephesians 3:20-21 NLT, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

With His help through the Holy Spirit, I can do His will for me and give Him the glory.
