See and Hear God for the First Time
This morning on my Bible Gateway app, I was looking through the dashboard and decided to listen to the Bible on Audio. Generally, I read rather than listen to the Bible, so it gave me a new perspective of God’s Word. It reminded me of the time I was on the Leadership Team of a church plant to attract the unchurched. Many of the attendees had never been to church or had not attended for years. Church was held in a school building, which was a different experience for me. Most of the songs were contemporary choruses. The first sermon was on the Ten Commandments. Thinking this was all elementary material learned as a child, I didn’t realize the sermon, the location, and the contemporary songs would lead me to experience God as never before. It was like I was seeing and hearing God for the first time. Sometimes a change will open our eyes and ears to what God wants us to see and hear.
As years passed and I came to realize Jesus was my personal Savior, God opened doors for me to attend seminary. After graduation, I was working at a church as the Christian Education Director and lead children in worship, while the adults worshiped in the sanctuary. I introduced a series on creative forms of worship. One Sunday we worshiped God through singing hymns and choruses. Another form of worship was dancing joyfully for the Lord. Another Sunday each of us read and acted our parts in a play about Jesus. Next we looked at different beautiful pictures of God’s scenic wonders. We were in awe of God’s creation of the sea, waterfalls, mountains and streams, sunrises and sunsets and beautiful pastures. Then we worshiped God through prayer and learned how to pray. Lastly, we read Bible stories and experienced God through his Word. These lessons helped me see and hear God in a brand new manner.
Perhaps you would like to experience God out of your usual pattern. You can worship God at home in each of these forms. I pray you will experience God unlike before and learn more about Him. God will be pleased with your worship.
So, open your eyes and listen with your ears, for God is speaking to you. God says in His Word, Matthew 13:16-17 NIV, “But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
May your eyes and ears be opened to understand God in a joyful and refreshing way today!
